Overnight field trip to Bisbee, AZ
December 6 – 7, 2017
To get the group rate, they need payment by November 1st in the amount of $11.00,
plus the Asarco Mine Tour is $8:00 for a total of $19.00 per person
School House has sold out! And The Gardens at Mile High Ranch has just a few rooms left.
You can start booking your rooms at the Bisbee School House Bed and Breakfast. It was rated number one on TripAdvisor under Bed and Breakfast. The phone number is 520-432-2996 or an email you can use is DRJohn60@comcast.net if you want to email. I was told we need to reserve the rooms ASAP, as these rooms are very popular.
Alexa Buchanan has graciously offered to collect the Copper Queen Mine tour money for me. She will be at the Cottonwood shop every Monday 9-11 am and Wednesday 1-3 pm. The cost of the tour is $11.00. Please have your money in no later than November 1st. No other money is needed at this time.
December 6
We will be leaving from the flag pole in Cottonwood December 6th at 8:00 am, arriving in Bisbee around 11:00 am. Lunch in Bisbee.
Tour the Copper Queen mine at 2:00 p.m. Tour is approximately 1 hour 15 minutes. Bring a light jacket or sweater and closed toed shoes.
I am working with "The School House Bed and Breakfast" for our accommodations who are also working with nearby "Gardens at Mile High Ranch" to make sure we have enough rooms available for our group the night of December 6th. It sounds like most rooms with be in the $100.00 range. Please let me know if you are sharing a room with someone so I can get an accurate room count for them. The sooner I know the better.
We can check in after the tour. After checking into our rooms, I suggest we just explore the town as I have heard there is plenty to see. (Or, you may find a site to go digging) I suggest you bring rockhounding tools with you, if you choose to go rockhounding.
December 7
We have breakfast, which is included in our room rate, then check out of the hotel. We will be traveling to the Asarco Mineral Discovery Center located just over two hours away in Marana AZ.
We need to leave for the Asarco Mineral Discovery Center by 11:30 a.m. which should get us there just after 1:30 p.m. leaving us just under 2 hours to explore their museum. I was told they also have several wonderful short videos on various aspects of their mining and smelting operation.
We have a 3:30 p.m. reservation for a bus tour of the active pit mine, the tour lasts 1.5 hours or until 5:00 p.m.
The Asarco Mine is 1.40 hours from home so we should arrive home before 7:00 p.m.
Everyone is welcome. Remember spouses, friends and non-members may also attend any of our field trip events – same rates will apply and the club’s $5.00 field trip fee.
All my best
