SUN LAKES ROCK, GEM & SILVER CLUB BOARD MEETING
​ MONDAY, December 2, 2019, OAKWOOD 4 P.M.


​The meeting was called to order by President Carol Capano at 4:05 p.m.
 
The minutes from the previous meeting were approved. 
 
OLD BUSINESS

  • Annual Safety Training update – Nancy Hibbard reported that 23 teachers and monitors were trained on November 21.  Handouts from the training will be issued to those unable to attend the training. 
 
  •  Christmas Party update – Alice Jardine reported that 50 tickets have been sold.  After discussing whether this date (first Tuesday in December) was too close to Thanksgiving, Carol volunteered to check with Palo Verde to see if the Club could reserve a date a week later in December for 2020.  The cash bar opens at 5:00, and dinner will be served at 6:00.  Pat Marquis said that 13 items have been donated for the raffle. 
 
NEW BUSINESS

  • Nominating Committee for election of officers – No one has volunteered to serve on the committee yet.  Open positions:

  • Secretary (Ellen Hellman has volunteered to serve another term)

  1.  The Show and Sell at the November meeting was well received.  Four members have signed up for the December meeting.
  2.  The January program will be a speaker from the Area Agency on Aging discussing recognizing and preventing fraud.

Rent for the Arts and Crafts Room at Country Club for gourds was approved for 2020.

                                                                        Don received a comment from Sun Lakes Country Club that
                                                                        the rent for the Navajo Room may be increased in the future. 
                                                                        Gail reported that the 2020 rent has already been paid.

  1. Several people have signed up for the Ming Tree class.  She will coordinate scheduling the class with Sandy Peterson for January or February. 
  2. Don and Gail discussed reports from members about concern that items in the display windows get dusty.  Suzanne explained about the challenge of keeping the displays clean.  She said that due to the fragility of some of the rock specimens it is not possible to run a duster over all the displays.  She will schedule a time to empty the windows to do a complete display.  Carol will recruit volunteers to help with the project.
